Welcome to Year 3 with Mrs Page and Mrs Rao
I am very impressed with how well the children have settled into life in Key Stage Two! They have already shown their resilience and the Nonsuch Values in the classroom and on the school playground. We have created our class vision and continue to remind ourselves of what is important to us. We are working hard to show our School Learning Behaviour’s this year and remembering the importance of our school community!
We have some very exciting history lessons this year. We have already begun exploring life in the Stone Age and later this year we will be journeying into Ancient Egypt and Roman Britain!
As we are now in the Key Stage Two, we will be developing our independent learning skills and resilience by having a go at new challenges. We will continue to develop our handwriting, SPAG, as well as our presentation skills. We will be improving our mathematical procedures in ‘MOT’ sessions and practising our rapid recall of multiplication and division facts.
A pivotal part of Year 3 is reading – both in school and at home. This life skill is an essential aspect of all learning. Our aim is for all children to become competent, independent readers and develop a lifelong love of reading. With this in mind, children should be reading every night at home for at least 10 minutes.
Homework: Is given out on a Friday and collected in on the following Friday. The children will be tested on their spellings each Friday and given a new set of spellings to practise at home for the following week. The children need to be accessing Times Tables Rockstars and Spelling Shed at home too, these are monitored weekly and is a vital part of their learning journey. They are also expected to read regularly for pleasure to develop their inference and retrieval skills. Children have a set stage reading book which they can read, alongside a library book. Please encourage your child to read to an adult at home and sign their diary regularly each week.
P.E is on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their PE kits on these days.
If you have any questions about Year 3 life, please do not hesitate to ask me, Mrs page
