History
The core intention of our history curriculum is to develop children’s historical knowledge; however, the key aim is not to develop isolated pockets of knowledge, but to develop a web of interrelated knowledge. At Nonsuch Primary School history focuses on chronological understanding, historical knowledge, interpretations of history and historical enquiry. In our history curriculum, we have key threads that run through the units of learning. These include Empires, Societies, Conflict, Monarchies, Significant Individuals and Legacy. By carefully mapping these threads across the units and revisiting them in different sequences of learning, children will gain historical perspective by placing their own growing knowledge into different contexts, understanding the connections between local, regional, national and international history: and between short and long-term time scales.
