Music
Our music curriculum is based on the Charanga Musical School scheme of work which facilitates and encourages an exploration of music by both the teacher and child. At Nonsuch Primary School, music focuses on a range of units which allow for skill progression. Through Charanga the interrelated dimensions of music are explored through the key threads: listening and appraising, games, singing, playing instruments, improvising, composing and performing. Every year groups’ musical learning is supported through the use of glockenspiels. Additionally, children at Nonsuch are offered the whole class instrumental programme and elective lessons to develop the foundations ready for key stage 3 and beyond. Throughout the year children are given opportunities to perform in front of an audience through class assemblies and key stage productions. Weekly singing practice offers children the opportunity to learn new songs and enjoy singing together. We are very lucky to have Mrs Bashford (our peripatetic teacher from Birmingham School Music Service) visit us every week. She has a guitar group with over 50 children in it and Year 4 have weekly ukulele lessons throughout the year.
